At the end of 2015, Sky Betting and Gaming announced the five shortlisted companies and at the end, it has selected Teenage Cancer Trust as its official corporate charity. Company employees took wholeheartedly the idea of participating in various events with a charitable purpose. The latter statement was confirmed during the latest event organized by the betting giant.
As many as 73 cyclists took part in the cycling challenge and rode around Yorkshire Dales. The minimum pledge was £30 and cyclists were enabled to choose between two routes – a 30-mile and a 60-mile one, respectively. The race started from Bolton Abbey’s Strid Wood tea rooms to finish at Norwood. The total amount of money raised via all charitable events is to be revealed in October.
The Fundraising Manager for Teenage Cancer Trust, Heather Bowen, said that the organization highly appreciates the efforts and the amazing support of the Sky Betting & Gaming employees over the last seven months.
She went on to say that Yorkshire was indisputably one of the most beautiful counties, but it was definitely not a flat one and praised Sky Betting employees for their endurance and determination to get to the end of the race.
Participants in the race also commented on the event and said that even though the route was quite hilly at times, the team spirit kept them determined to deal with it. They added that there was no better feeling than promoting a good cause and feeling as a part of a team.
The cycling competition was not the first charitable event Sky Betting and Gaming organises. Back in April, the London Marathon attracted the keen interest of both employees and local communities. It gave the participants the opportunity to bet up to £100 on themselves and try to beat the time. The stakes of those who failed to do so were donated to the charitable organization.
A representative of the PR Department of Sky Betting and Gaming commented on the events aimed at raising money for the charitable purpose and said that the company has been always looking for unusual methods for raising funds. The spokesperson drew as an example the opportunity participants had to back themselves with a bet and remained hopeful that such kind of incentives will attract even more company employees to the charitable cause in future.
